Eaton women honoured with Step Ahead awards

 July 26, 2018

Women at Eaton are leading their field and being recognised for their fabulous achievements. This year, three women from Eaton have been honoured in the Women in Manufacturing Step Ahead awards.

Engineering director Tomasina is passionate about Eaton and it's people

Director of engineering with Eaton’s Aerospace division, Tomasina supports her global team in new product development and introduction, research and development, sustaining and aftermarket programs. She also plays an instrumental role in multiple internal employee resource groups and community outreach programs, including mentoring early career engineering students and giving them the opportunity to develop highly technical skills.

"I am passionate about manufacturing because it sustains innovation. Manufacturing brings engineered designs to life, and helps engineers understand that a design is not effective if it cannot be manufactured. As manufacturing evolves and improves, engineers are challenged to innovate and improve their designs, creating a synergy between the two.”  Tomasina Bailey

Tomasina is passionate about Eaton and its people, which is evident through her involvement in internal employee resources groups such as WAVE (Women Adding Value at Eaton) and PRIDE, which fosters inclusion, understanding and awareness for Eaton’s LGBT employees and their allies. Tomasina is a member of Eaton’s Power Women In Engineering and the Industrial Sector Diversity Advisory Group. Leading her teams to host 17 innovation events in 2017, Tomasina continuously challenges her team members to have a high drive for results. In addition, she is a strong advocate of early career engineers and has actively participated in many recruiting events.

Emerging leader Claire is a technical leader on many key programmes

As a sustainability program manager, Claire Castleman has been a strategic partner and technical leader on many key program elements of Eaton’s corporate sustainability initiatives. She serves as Eaton's representative in the Harvard Sustainability and Health Initiative for Net Positive Enterprise (SHINE) and also led the development of an Eaton internal standard on Energy Management which was published for use by manufacturing locations globally in late 2016.

Claire exhibits a clear passion for making the world a better place. She participates in a multitude of programs and activities that challenge her intellect. As a board member of Alliance for the Great Lakes, she champions the health and cleanliness of lakes through advocacy and grassroots action. She is also a board member for the Cleveland Climate Action Fund, where she participates in leading climate change mitigation projects with the City of Cleveland. Claire’s energy and drive have also spurred exciting new initiatives at the company’s headquarters in Beachwood, Ohio including an apiary project that benefits the environment, educates the workforce on environmental issues and engages employees in new ways to make a difference for the planet and their own health.

Cheryl hopes more women will explore manufacturing careers

Cheryl Hodge has built a distinguished career with more than 25 years in sales and operations planning (S&OP) for manufacturing organizations. As a demand manager for Eaton’s Residential & Wiring Devices Division, she uses her understanding of demand forecasting, coupled with a passion for understanding commercial issues and market forces, to shape demand conversations across all functions of the business.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized among this group of extraordinary women,” said Hodge. “The mission of the STEP Ahead initiative is one that is close to my heart, and it’s my sincere hope that through the program, more women are able to understand and capitalize on the wealth of career opportunities available to them in the manufacturing industry.”
