UNHCR offers meaningful careers

Established in December 1950, UNHCR is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist refugees, internally displaced people and other populations of concern. In more than six decades, UNHCR has helped tens of millions of people restart their lives. Currently, the agency has responsibility for 35,6 million people of concern and operates in more than 120 countries.

Work to support uprooted, stateless persons

UNHCR leads and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. UNHCR's workforce is diverse, highly challenging and requires committed, responsive and flexible staff with a high degree of motivation and professional skill. Positions range from protection officers and programme or logistics experts in some of the world's most difficult trouble spots to specialist work in the agency's headquarters in Geneva. UNHCR staff are expected to be mobile and work in different locations during their career.

Global humanitarian organisation of humble origins

There are more than 43 million uprooted people worldwide. UNHCR deals with 33.9 million people of concern - 14.7 million internally displaced people, 10.5 million refugees, 3.1 million returnees, 3.5 million stateless people, more than 837,000 asylum seekers and more than 1.3 other persons of concern.
