MetLife is named as an adoption friendly workplace

MetLife has been named as an adoption friendly workplace by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA), a nonprofit public charity based in the United States dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care.

Making adoption an option for every parent

MetLife has been ranked 62nd out of 100 in DTFA's annual 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list that includes a diverse group of organizations striving to make adoption a supported option for every working parent. The list compares financial reimbursement and paid leave offered to employees who adopt, based on a survey of organizations across the US.

Recognizing MetLife's ongoing employee support

This award gives official recognition for MetLife's ongoing employee support, including employee adoption benefits, parental leave policies and flexible work culture.

The company not only offers reimbursement of eligible adoption-related expenses to adopting parents, but all of the same benefits enjoyed by all working families at MetLife, including: flexible work arrangements such as compressed work weeks, part-time work, job-sharing, flextime, virtual work and telecommuting; back-up child care for up to 15 days per child per year when regular care is unavailable, as well as up to 10 per cent in child care discounts; counseling, concierge services, research and referrals, employee discounts, seminars, self-assessments, and more.

Preparing for parental leave through training

MetLife employee Candice Resto benefited from MetLife's workplace support when she and her husband William formally adopted their son when he was four years old, after fostering him for over two years.

By participating in the 'MetLife Family Matters Parental Leave' training session, Candice was able to talk with other colleagues across the organization who had taken either traditional maternity leave or adoptive leave. The training session helped prepare Candice to take parental leave and answer any questions she had.

“The support and preparation provided by MetLife made an overwhelming, life-changing event become a very pleasant and enjoyable experience,” says Candice Resto.

Benefiting from MetLife's Adoption Assistance Program

Sales Consultant for MetLife’s Global Customer Solutions Katherine Doti also received much-needed help from MetLife's Adoption Assistance Program.

“We waited many years for our son and he is truly our gift from God. After he was born, my husband and I were surprised to learn that MetLife has this wonderful program that contributed to our expenses,” explains Katherine. “We will always be grateful for MetLife and the gift they gave to our family through the MetLife Adoption Assistance Program.”
