QBE European Operations is partnering with Women in Data to help raise the profile of women data and technology professionals.

"We are eager to work with Women in Data to increase the diversity of our data and tech teams, and to help raise the profiles of women working across our organization," says QBE European Operations.

"I am delighted we are partnering with Women in Data to help raise the profile and increase the number of women building their careers in pricing, data science and technology," comments Chief Underwriting Officer for Insurance at QBE, Nick Hankin.

Through the partnership with Women in Data, QBE European Operations hopes to create an environment of learning and networking, while also striving to increase the diversity of its data science, actuarial, and technology and data teams.

Supporting women working in the data field

The aim of Women in Data is to ensure there is diversity of talent working in Analytics, and to encourages women to shine and progress within their careers

Women in Data provides a community setting in which delegates can network and share ideas. The strong relationships formed at Women in Data events have created an increasingly powerful group from which female data practitioners gain support and advice.

QBE's collaboration with Women in Data is part of the company's commitment to create an inclusive and diverse workplace, and to empower all of its employees to reach their full potential.

The data landscape is changing

In the next five years, QBE European Operations expects to see the data landscape in the UK continuing to evolve. Insurers are increasingly turning to new and innovative data sets to better understand the characteristics and risks of their insured assets, as well as the credit quality, and attitudes to risk of their insureds. In addition, advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning are enabling data to be collected, analyzed, and used to aid decision-making more quickly and accurately than ever before. QBE European Operations believes that this will be a key area of focus for data professionals in the coming years.

Meet three of the talented women working in data and tech with QBE European Operations:

  • QBE's Lead Data Scientist, Devanshi Upreti, is building advanced data products using Machine Learning to support strategic decision-making for the business
  • QBE's Lead Pricing Actuary for Energy and Construction, Ishita Bhatia, is helping build out a range of capabilities to respond to the needs of QBE's customers to achieve a net-zero emission economy by 2050
  • QBE's Actuarial Analyst, Rebecca Broome, has a role that includes case pricing, involving analyzing external client data to determine insurance premiums. Rebecca collaborates with underwriters, using data to identify trends and inform decisions, and communicating the results to stakeholders. She is also responsible for maintaining and updating pricing models
