Meet Gabrielle King, a Siemens Healthineers Senior Change Manager for Magnet Technology in Oxford, UK.

Gabrielle took part in the European Mechatronic Apprenticeship Scheme in Berlin in Germany, before starting her position as graduate Change Manager at Magnet Technology in 2017 - and now a Senior Change Manager.

Gabrielle describes herself as a very driven, methodical and reliable employee. She manages projects that focus on changing either the design or the manufacturing process of Siemens Healthineers magnets. These strategic changes result in either a productivity impact and/or a quality improvement.

"Throughout my education and first years of professional employment, I would consider myself very self-driven, however, I come from a family of engineers and believe it is this that first peaked my interest in engineering," shares Gabrielle.

A positive impact on people around the world

Gabrielle joined Siemens Healthineers Magnet Technology as she wanted to be involved, as the diagnostic imaging sector is continually developing and has a positive impact on so many people around the world.

Magnet Technology also supported her development by offering her the opportunity to attend the European @ Siemens Scholarship, which enabled her to build a foundation of knowledge in Mechatronic Engineering.

A motivating workplace environment

Gabrielle says that for her there is no typical work day as such. "The great thing about managing your own projects is that you get to be there from the development of an idea, right through to implementation, working with every department in the business along the way," shares Gabrielle, describing Siemens Healthineers culture as challenging, positive, engaging, motivating and collaborative."

Discussing some of her work challenges, Gabrielle says: "What I find the most challenging, but at the same time rewarding when successful, is bringing together a cross-functional team and aligning them on a core idea and strategy. All departments have differing requirements and opinions, so to have everybody in agreement with everyone’s needs taken into consideration is a great achievement."

And of the most rewarding aspects, Gabrielle enjoys seeing a project implemented, but also realizing how much she develops both professionally and personally during a project. "Over time, I have begun taking on more challenging projects while also having the confidence to drive forward," she shares.

STEM offers new and exciting opportunities

Gabrielle explains that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is applicable to so much of the world, and it is forever offering new and exciting opportunities. "If any of the STEM areas interest you, it’s definitely worth pursuing. Also do your research and ask plenty of questions, don’t be afraid to take a risk, there are plenty of ways to learn and develop that aren’t always readily advertised," she advises.

Encouraging others to work for Siemens Healthineers, Gabrielle says: "It’s a great place to work. I feel very fortunate to work in such a diverse and collaborative environment that allowed me to get involved right away. I’m always working on something different, but support has always been available, and I haven’t stopped developing since I arrived here."

Enjoying her downtime

Gabrielle enjoys a lot of sport in her personal life, often playing squash and football weekly.

She says that she would also like to learn another language, perhaps Italian. "I learnt German during my time on the scholarship program, and I think it would be new challenge."
