Women's careers are thriving at FDM

FDM Group is a strategic partner in IT and business talent and has offices in a number of countries. Their consultants are trained to deliver effective business and technology solutions for clients worldwide.

In a bid to combat the shortage of women in IT, FDM has implemented an initiative that promotes and encourages women to launch a career in IT. FDM has also established a female mentoring programme where their 'Female Champions' mentor fellow colleagues and organise events to raise awareness of the attractive opportunities for women in the IT industry.

FDM is proud to be leading by example in our efforts to create a more gender-balanced workforce. They are committed to supporting and encouraging women to pursue a career in IT and by doing so have seen a consistent rise in women joining the company. Around 50% of the senior management team at FDM is female, and 28% of all employees at FDM are female.

What does FDM Group do as a company?

FDM is the market leader in the Recruit, Train and Deploy industry, placing IT and business professionals with clients across a number of sectors. They work in partnership with clients to fill specialty skills gaps within their teams, building their talent pipelines for the future.

FDM’s business consultants work with clients on operational and business transformation programmes to help with both the implementation and delivery of projects, as well as providing ongoing support. Their people combine technical excellence with strong interpersonal skills and work in some of the most demanding and challenging environments. FDM provides ongoing professional and technical support for all of their consultants to help with their personal development and to ensure FDM provides a seamless service to its clients.

Recruitment:

FDM recruits, trains and hires graduates, ex-forces personnel and those looking to return to work after a career break. FDM's commitment to creating a diverse workforce ensures clients can build their own balanced teams, employing consultants from a wide range of backgrounds, skill sets and experience.

Training:

FDM provides award-winning training to equip individuals with technical skills and commercial experience, transitioning them into professional IT and business consultants. As the training is fully funded by FDM, consultants commit to work for FDM for a period of two years which allows the company to provide guaranteed continuity of service to clients and the ability to scale at speed.

Talent deployment:

With flexible contract terms, FDM provides scalable resources at short notice and across multiple client sites. They continue to support their consultants while they are on client site, as well as offer professional and technical support to underpin the training they receive in the FDM academy.

Building the talent pipeline:

Clients can transfer their on-site FDM consultants to be part of their permanent teams after our agreed contractual time frames have lapsed. This enables FDM's clients to retain knowledge and skills whilst adding a broad mix of experienced professionals to their own talent pool.

Supporting graduates, returners and ex-forces talent

As mentioned, FDM's diverse talent pools, combined with the ability to transfer FDM consultants to permanent in-house resource means that FDM's clients benefit from range of experiences and technical skills in the creation of their own balanced teams. FDM's Getting Back to Business Programme provides clients with experienced business analysts and project managers who are returning to work after a break in their career. And FDM's Advanced Ex-Forces Programme transitions those from a senior level or officer position into project managers which allows FDM clients to benefit from extensive leadership skills, gravitas and life experience.

What technical expertise does FDM Group provide as a company?

FDM Group has a track record of success in providing customised solutions and tailored offerings for businesses. In collaboration with its clients, standard FDM training programmes can be adapted to address specialised skill sets required by the client. FDM manages these tailored training programmes, from targeted recruitment and selection of candidates through to training and deployment on-site.

FDM provides solutions in key areas:

  • FDM’s DevOps engineers understand the importance of speed to market in software delivery and getting it right first time across the lifecycle of build, test, release and monitor. All FDM's software development consultants are trained in continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) and can be trained in a range of additional tools (e.g. Chef, Puppet etc) and languages (e.g. Python, Ruby) to support your code pipeline.

  • FDM's Test automation engineers reduce the overhead of testing by building automation frameworks to do the work. FDM provides test automation training to its testing consultants as part of the core software testing training programme - including modules in Core Java, Selenium WebDriver (with Java) and BDD framework using Cucumber. In addition to this, FDM’s software development consultants can be upskilled in any of the modules covered by FDM’s core software testing training programme so that they have the skillset required to support “dev in test” roles. FDM also conducts bespoke training in additional automation tools and frameworks based on client demand - including Selenium WebDriver (with .NET), BDD framework using SpecFlow and SoapUI for testing both SOAP and RESTful services.

  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA) involves creating software as “digital workers” to handle a broad range of back office operations, freeing skilled human workers from data entry and other basic tasks. In the next decade, RPA is predicted to move forward from simply replacing office processes to supporting actual decision making through increased use of AI, cognitive intelligence and machine learning. FDM provides training approved by RPA software companies such as Blue Prism, UIPath and Thoughtonomy, supplementing our proven training in business and technology. After completing an FDM programme such as Business Analysis or completing a significant part of the Software Development programme, FDM consultants transfer to a three week “boot camp” using the most appropriate RPA product to match the client need. Throughout the training consultants work on realistic projects designed by FDM and typically will complete an accreditation.
