Cloudera Senior Solutions Engineer Ana Gillan [pictured above] spoke with Brenda Le Sueur, Head of Data Lab at Cambridge Assessment, as part of Cloudera's Influential Women in Data event series.

A non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge, Cambridge Assessment provides education assessments for over 8 million learners in over 170 countries and marked by over 30,000 examiners every year.

Brenda has worked across many organisations and continents, but what has always been crucial to her is relationships – how we cultivate them, how we nurture them and how they, in turn, define us. In conversation with Ana, Brenda described her journey as a woman in tech, while discussing the impact of relationships on careers.

"No one is being taught to make decisions and we all need to be able to do this as well as understand how to deal with the consequences of our decisions – especially when you are working in data. It all comes down to relationships. And that is why how people treat others and how they work together are so important to me. You are only as strong as your team, they are the root of your success," says Brenda.

Cloudera's Influential Women in Data virtual series of events celebrates the influential women behind the data strategies of some of the UK's most influential organisations.
