Omar Ishrak, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, has been recognized for contributions to diagnostic ultrasound, and for leadership in medical technology innovation and globalization.
The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected Omar as a new member, which is a great honor as election to the academy is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
"Congratulations to Medtronic CEO Omar Ishrak for the incredible honor of being inducted into the National Academy of Engineering's Class of 2020. We celebrate the leadership, expertise, and vision of our CEO and all that he has accomplished," said Medtronic.
Making outstanding contributions to technology
Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.
Election of new NAE members is the culmination of a year-long process and Omar will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the NAE's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
