WSP engineer Sian Walker has benefited from mentoring

 October 21, 2021

WSP UK Assistant Engineer Sian Walker, based in Belfast, has had many interesting roles at the company.

Sian commenced her interaction with the company as a WSP intern in County Down in Northern Ireland and went on to be a Graduate Engineer before taking on a role as assistant engineer.

Gaining further industry insight via mentoring opportunity

Additionally, via the Institute of Water, Sian has taken part in an important mentoring scheme that unlocked her potential, supported her career goals, and helped her consider new ways of approaching situations.

The Institute of Water supports its members by offering those looking to gain additional knowledge or advice an opportunity to learn about a new area of the water industry, apply for professional accreditation, or acquire guidance on building and enhancing their career.

Discussing her participation in formal mentoring, Sian says: "It's been a complete insight into the career of an individual who has been in the industry a lot longer than I have. [My mentor] has helped me focus on areas I'm not as strong in, such as presenting and public speaking," she adds.

"Sometimes, it has pushed me out of my comfort zone, but ultimately it has made me more confident in my day-to-day job. I'm excited about the future of my role."
