The award in the Closing the Digital and AI Divides category recognized Colt's efforts to increase digital access, improve literacy, and create opportunities for communities to thrive in a tech-driven world.
"Thank you to the Purpose Coalition for this recognition, and huge thanks to Ignite Hubs for making a real difference in the lives of individuals and communities," said Colt.
Developing important partnerships
Particular recognition was given to Marta Trzaska from Colt's Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) team for building a strong relationship with Ignite Hubs and driving this work forward as part of its Social Impact Strategy.
"Thank you Colt Technology Services for the opportunity to develop such important partnerships! Also, special thanks to Dolores Currie for your continuous support and engagement with Ignite Hubs," said Marta.
From coding club to STEM charity
Ignite Hubs started as a small coding club in 2019 and has grown into a volunteer-run charity, providing inclusive STEM education to young people aged 7 to 18, including girls, children with special needs, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the past year, Colt's contributions have enabled Ignite Hubs to:
- Develop an online learning platform focused on coding and tech skills
- Start creating the Ignite Portal, a mentoring platform connecting students with tech professionals
- Launch a STEM career book on cybersecurity, featuring a foreword by Colt CEO, Keri Gilder
Closing the digital divide
Colt Technology Services joined forces with The Purpose Coalition to become a commissioner on Goal 10 of the Purpose Goals framework: Closing the Digital Divide. This collaboration sees Colt contribute to the Breaking Down Barriers Commission, helping to tackle the inequalities in access to digital infrastructure and skills that are critical to unlocking opportunities in today’s economy.
The Purpose Coalition’s Breaking Down Barriers Commission brings together purpose-led organisations committed to dismantling the structural barriers preventing individuals from achieving their full potential. With its extensive expertise in cutting-edge digital connectivity and its global presence, Colt is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in addressing digital exclusion and fostering greater access to technology.
Colt's CEO, Keri Gilder, has commented: "At Colt, we believe that connectivity is a fundamental enabler of opportunity. By joining The Purpose Coalition and supporting its Breaking Down Barriers Commission, we are reinforcing our commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has access to the tools and skills they need to thrive in a digital world."
The partnership focuses on developing a blueprint across Colt’s activities through the lens of their customers, colleagues, and the communities they operate in, aiming to break down barriers to opportunity for all. This blueprint serves as a model for creating impactful change, shared across The Purpose Coalition’s wider network, with policymakers, and beyond, to drive systemic improvements in access to digital connectivity and opportunity. Colt’s involvement underscores the critical role that businesses can play in fostering social mobility and enabling equal opportunities through technology.
