CNA Research Scientist Elizabeth Clelan is an expert in her field

As a Research Scientist, Elizabeth B. Clelan, Ph.D., is one of CNA's team of research experts. Elizabeth has a particular focus on military manpower topics including recruiting, retention, and assignment policy.

A wide range of research topics 

Elizabeth's recent research topics include the integration of women into combat arms occupations, servicemember use of tuition assistance, youth e-cigarette use, evaluation of travel reimbursement programs, and identifying the qualities that make a successful Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) officer.

Elizabeth serves as CNA's Scientific Analyst to Marine Corps Recruiting Command.

Prior research and teaching experience 

Prior to joining CNA, Elizabeth worked as a research assistant, teaching assistant, and instructor at the University of Georgia.

Elizabeth has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Georgia. Elizabeth also has a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Spanish from Furman University, and is fluent in Spanish.

Providing expertise in reports 

Elizabeth's expertise is often cited in reports, for example, in Elizabeth Clelan New Military CNA Report, she says, "Education is important to them, skill training is important to them, and they just don't know that the military can provide them these opportunities."

Furthermore, Elizabeth has commented on the "significant decline in the veteran population", which she says has "typically been a very important influencer of youth to want to serve in the military" (WSVA: Dr Elizabeth Clelan-Military Recruiting in Danger).
