Work for a Top 100 institution: Nottingham Trent University

Congratulations to Nottingham Trent University (NTU) for being named as a Top 100 institution in the global Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

These rankings are the only performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and, in 2023, NTU has risen to joint 86th of 1,591 institutions worldwide.

Institutions submit their evidence to demonstrate how they are contributing to the SDGs which are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. 

The SDGs include Zero Hunger, Good Health and Wellbeing, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduce Inequality, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Climate Action

Impressive research, stewardship, outreach and teaching

As part of the rankings, THE provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.

This year NTU saw its submission for ten SDGs place in the Top 100 institutions, with Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and Partnership for the Goals achieving Top 20 positions. 

The University’s rise into the Top 100 comes despite an increase of 13 per cent in the number of institutions ranking. NTU was ranked 101-200 in the 2022 table.

A testament to the hard work of NTU colleagues and students

Nottingham Trent University Vice-Chancellor & President, Professor Edward Peck, said: “Embracing Sustainability is a theme we added to our strategic agenda in 2020 and this ranking is external confirmation that we are making progress with our ambition and renews our commitment to take the journey that still lies ahead.”

Umesh Desai, Director of Estates at NTU, said: “It is brilliant to see our THE Impact Ranking improve year-on-year. It’s a testament to the hard work of colleagues and students in addressing the United Nation’s SDGs and driving forward NTU’s sustainability agenda.”
