Capgemini confirmed its commitment to building UK talent by announcing plans to hire 1,500 new team members. As Capgemini’s third largest market outside of France and North America, the recruitment drive has a particular focus on junior talent across the country.

Sourcing talent through graduate and apprentice programmes

A third of the new workforce is expected to be sourced through Capgemini’s long-running graduate and apprentice programmes. Spanning digital and technology solutions, project management, cyber security and much more, these programmes are a vital part of growing the UK’s digital talent and capabilities.

Widening geographic focus outside London

In addition, Capgemini is also committed to sourcing its talent from as broad a cross section of the population possible – including strengthening its geographic focus outside London. As part of its existing network of regional sites throughout the UK, Capgemini plans to open new roles at locations including Glasgow, Inverness, Telford, Worthing, Manchester, Liverpool and Treforest. In Scotland alone, the new headcount will be approximately 400 employees.

“The events of the past year have proved that digital talent is more critical than ever as businesses rapidly accelerate their digital transformation and look to technology, particularly cloud, to solve some of today’s most pressing issues. I am proud of the role Capgemini continues to play in growing this vital talent but we know that we have to go further, which is one of the reasons we’ve doubled our early talent intake plans this year,” comments Paul Margetts, Managing Director of Capgemini in the UK. “We are thinking more broadly than ever about where the next generation of talent could come from and how best to nurture it – carefully crafting our programmes to offer exciting and varied long-term careers in the technology industry.”

Growing training and mentoring partnerships

As part of Capgemini’s commitment to building an inclusive technology sector in the UK, the company is also stepping up its critical training and mentoring partnerships through its education programme and third sector partners, including with The Prince’s Trust and Code Your Future.  Capgemini’s work in these areas continues to go from strength to strength and has increased year-on-year.

In 2020, Capgemini worked with 37,000 young people as part of its education programme and the Code Your Future initiative was named innovation project of the year by the Business Charity awards and best education project by the Global Good Awards.
