BD recognised as an LGBTQ-friendly employer

BD has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality by Human Rights Campaign (HRC), one of the largest LGBTQ civil rights organizations in the United States. HRC's vision is for all LGBTQ people to have equality at home, at work and in every community.

Acting locally and reaching globally

For the second year in a row, BD has gained a perfect score of 100% on HRC's Corporate Equality Index, which is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees. Companies like BD were judged for their non-discriminatory policies, employment benefits, responsible citizenship and support of an inclusive culture, including public commitment to LGBTQ equality.

"At BD, we believe that by acting locally and reaching globally, we demonstrate our commitment to civil and human rights and support the company’s mission to make cultural diversity an asset," says Jonathan Crutchley, Director of U.S. Region Customer Marketing at BD and co-leader of BD's Associate Resource Group, OPEN

BD's Associate Resource Group, OPEN (Out and Proud Employee Network), embraces and inspires the LGBTQ community within BD. OPEN helps associates thrive both in the workplace through education, celebratory events, opportunity and acceptance, and outside the workplace through acts of service and corporate advocacy.

Collaborating with LGBTQ-inclusive organizations

BD has joined HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act, which is a group of leading employers in the U.S. that support federal legislation that would give the same basic protections to LGBT+ people as are given to other protected groups under federal law. BD has also publicly endorsed the United Nations Standards of Conduct for Business, which encourage businesses to bring about positive social change in the communities where they do business, foster diversity and establish a culture of respect and equality.

"As an organization, we will continue to make strides towards equality, focusing on the standards of conduct put forth by the UN and continuing to collaborate with partners like the Human Rights Campaign and other LGBT+-inclusive organizations," adds Jonathan.
