BD Women's Initiative Network inspires youth careers

BD’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) is a global, associate-led program that supports women at all levels with the skills, knowledge and experience to help advance their careers. WIN groups hold events at regional level, as well as globally coordinated events, such as celebrations for International Women’s Day.

Hosting a career day to inspire young people

The network recently hosted a career day event at the BD San Diego office with Just in Time for Foster Youth, a local organization supporting young people who have aged out of the foster care system to help provide a better understanding of different types of career opportunities.

The highlight of the day was the Career Journey Panel Discussion, hosted by Ranjeet Banerjee, BD's Worldwide President, Medication Management Solutions.

The discussion featured career stories and lessons learned from BD employees:

  • Idal Beer - Vice President, Medical Affairs, Medication Management Solutions, BD Medical
  • Monica Buchanan - Director Of Manufacturing Operations
  • Tiffany Pasion - Senior Manager, Customer Advocacy, Escalation Management
  • Grace Park - R&D Director

Celebrating everyone's differences and unique skills

WIN is one of BD's Associate Resource Groups (ARGS) which are company-recognized groups of associates with a specific purpose that aligns with the overall company and inclusion and diversity strategy. These groups celebrate the differences that make all BD employees unique.

At BD, ARGs help advance the company's cultural priorities of becoming more agile, candid and transparent; cultivating innovation; and uniting, engaging and developing talent. ARGs also help create better career growth for associates by providing peer mentoring, coaching, leadership and networking opportunities.

Increasing the representation of women and ethnic minorities

BD has set goals to increase the representation of women and ethnic minorities at all levels and in all regions of its organization. It tracks hires, promotions, job openings, growth of business units and resignations to measure its progress.

BD aims to achieve goals for diversity and inclusion, and its primary focus includes:

  • global mentoring and networking programs to drive sponsorship, retention and career development for existing associates
  • training and tools to accelerate cross-cultural work and team effectiveness in development programs at all levels
  • associate resource groups, including WIN, and external partnerships with diverse professional associations and talent communities
