Arcadis has one of the top ten LGBT+ Networks in the UK

Arcadis has one of the top ten LGBT+ Networks in the UK

Celebrations are in store for Arcadis as its LGBT Network, dubbed Kaleidoscope, is a finalist in the prestigious British LGBT Awards which celebrate the UK’s most loved LGBT personalities, innovators and companies.

The network has been recognised through the awards as a Top 10 LGBT+ Network Group or ERG.

Supporting the LGBT community

Kaleidoscope was established in 2015 and has over 23 active members across the UK. The network has done some impressive work in supporting the LGBT community, including being involved in four Pride marches, LGBT+ career events, national Diversity & Inclusion conferences and supplier diversity forums. The network has also collaborated with HR in the creation of a transitioning at work policy.

"The energy and passion of the group are challenging perceptions across the construction industry and implementing an open and progressive culture at Arcadis," say the British LGBT Awards.

Recognising the value of difference

This impressive recognition is thanks to Arcadis' workplace culture of diversity and inclusion which not only focuses on LGBT, but also age, disability, faith, race and gender

Arcadis recognises the value of difference, encourages its people to be themselves at work and embraces an open and unique outlook on life from every one of its employees. The company understands that the best creative and innovative thinking for its clients comes from individual diversity and a supportive, dynamic work environment.

Promoting the diversity of Arcadians

Peter Madden, Chief Operating Officer Europe, Middle East and UK, Global Programme Director and Executive Sponsor of Kaleidoscope, was also previously named the UK’s leading Corporate Straight Ally by the British LGBT Awards.

He said: "I have witnessed first-hand the emotional turmoil that people go through to be true to themselves. I want people to feel able to be themselves at work and express themselves in the way they choose, without fear.

"We need to challenge perceptions right across the construction industry, and the more that leaders such as myself speak out, the closer we get to creating an inclusive environment for all."

Natasha Stone, Senior Cost Commercial Manager and Member of Kaleidoscope, added: "Since joining Arcadis, my view of Diversity and Inclusion has changed. Professionally, I wouldn’t have thought myself eligible to join the LGBT+ community, but I’ve learned that everyone has a place. I’m an LGBT+ ally, part of the ‘+’, so to speak.

"The only way we’ll ever reach acceptance, equality and inclusion is to support our colleagues, whatever sexuality they identify with. We can’t stand aside from a position of majority and allow ourselves to be siloed from minority groups. We need to join our distinctiveness together, promote the wonderful diversity of our Arcadians and lead the way in the industry,"
