Rio Tinto is a progressive employer demonstrating its commitment to inspiring a new generation of mining by supporting the global Young Mining Professionals network.

The network offers early career professionals the opportunity to connect with peers and learn from senior leaders, as well as explore career opportunities and find career mentors.

Working to encourage a new generation of mining professionals

Principal Advisor of Rio Tinto Ventures, Catriona Beadel, is the Founder of Young Mining Professionals UK. She said: "I recognised there was a gap for a forum to connect early career professionals in our industry."

Joanne Farrell, Rio Tinto Managing Director Australia and Group Executive Health, Safety & Enivronment, added: "I joined the mining industry nearly 40 years ago, and something like Young Mining Professionals just wasn't available then. Had it been available I would have taken full advantage of it."

Young women working with Rio Tinto are encouraged to join the Young Mining Professionals network and kickstart their careers. Young Mining Professionals is an international association of mining professionals based in major mining centres worldwide, that share the goal of advancing the profile and leadership of the mining and exploration industry. The network was formed to help participants in obtaining the skills, support and knowledge to successfully advance their careers, develop a network of contacts within the industry, and identify career and mining-related investment opportunities. Young Mining Professionals meets these objectives through regular topical networking, guest speaker and social events.
