Now is a very exciting time for women to work with NSW Customer Service within the New South Wales Government.

The government has intensified its focus on service delivery through the creation of a dedicated portfolio that combines the state's customer service and IT functions.

Driving the digitalisation of government services

The establishment of Australia’s first Department of Customer Service in New South Wales will drive the digitisation of the government's services and is led by Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello.

Minister Dominello's role as Customer Service Minister focuses on removing any difficulties citizens face in dealing with government departments. It has been reported that the Minister is sekeing to roll out a digital driver's licence, shorten the school enrolment process in education and provide more transparency around health waiting lists.

"Rather than putting the government first and saying 'you must follow our way', we're putting the citizen first and saying, 'how do we make this journey easier for you?'" Minster Dominello told the Sydney Morning Herald. "We're anchoring this around the Service NSW model and that's why we decided to call it 'customer service', because we want that level of service right throughout."

NSW Customer Service is one of eight super clusters

NSW Customer Service is one of eight super-clusters, meaning Mr Dominello is one of eight cluster-led Ministers.

The NSW Government states that the Customer Service cluster will rapidly expand its one-stop shop for customers government-wide and put NSW into a world-leading position in digital technology and customer service for the next decade.

The new cluster will have the authority to plan, prioritise, fund and drive digital transformation and customer service across every cluster in the NSW Government. It will be one of the most important functions of the government, as economies around the world continue to transition towards automation, artificial intelligence, robotics and the next generation of jobs.

The new cluster is also designed to improve customer satisfaction for millions of people and deliver efficiencies in how services are delivered through digital platforms.

It is also hoped that the Customer Service cluster will become a place where the next generation of leaders will want to work.
