Working with Rio Tinto means working with a company that cares about the communities in which it operates and strives to make a difference. This is evident from various initiatives including Rio Tinto Western Australia's Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership with the City of Karratha

This Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership received recognition at the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s 'Resources Sector Awards' for Excellence in Perth.

The Rio Tinto social investment partnership was a finalist for the 'Community Partnership' Resources Sector Award for significantly enhancing the livability of towns in Karratha by providing improvements to infrastructure, facilities and services at a grassroots level. In recent years, projects to benefit from the partnership include the Dampier Community Hub, Karratha’s Red Earth Arts Precinct and Wickham Community Hub.

The partnership has previously won the Western Australian Corporate Social Responsibility Pinnacle Award. It was also the Australian Business Awards 100 Winner for 'Community Contribution' and has been a finalist for the Western Australian Premier’s Awards for Excellence in 'Public Sector Management'.

Enhancing towns via improved infrastructure

"[We are] thrilled to be nominated for the 2019 Community Partnership Resources Sector Award at the Western Australia Resource Awards. Our Community Infrastructure and Services Partnership (CISP) was recognised for its commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the coastal community within the City of Karratha, where we have a significant presence," said Rio Tinto.

"Through our CISP partnership with the City of Karratha, we’ve contributed $48.6m since 2012 and have committed another $7.64m until 2022 to the partnership. The partnership has been instrumental in enhancing community life through new or improved services delivery. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the countless people who have worked to make this partnership as strong and successful as it has been."
