The University of Sheffield Careers Service supports students and graduates up to three years after graduation.

Explore your options

Make a start with your career planning and explore the various options open to you. Some students and recent graduates have a clear idea of their next step after University, others do not. Even if you have studied a subject that links to a particular career, you'll still have a range of options to choose from. Always try to understand yourself and explore the careers that might interest you.

Careers with your degree

Develop skills

Develop your skills and provide evidence of them when applying for jobs. Are you applying for jobs or further study but are not quite sure how to sell yourself effectively? The University's Career Service has put together some interactive exercises, video clips and activity sheets to help you identify your skills and provide evidence of them.

CVs, applications and interviews

Write applications and CVs and prepare for interviews and assessment centres. The University provides some great free MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) covering areas like:
- How to Succeed at: Writing Applications - where you can learn how to write successful CVs, covering letters and applications (including personal statements) for jobs or courses
- How to Succeed at: Interviews - that prepares you for different types of interviews, research an organisation, what to wear and how to answer some commonly asked questions.

Access hundreds of vacancies including; graduate jobs, part-time jobs, paid work experience, voluntary work, internships and placements:
- Summer placements - whether you're looking for a year in industry or a short term or summer placement, the Careers Service offers a number of schemes for you to find opportunities, and to support you throughout your placement
- Year Long PlacementYear long placements (DEE) - enhance your degree to a 'Degree with Employment Experience' (DEE) by adding a full year of industry experience
- Overseas PlacementsOverseas placements - take your work experience abroad; learn professional skills, experience different cultures and gain a global perspective
- GREAT Ambassador China Scheme - an Opportunity for Chinese speaking students to acquire employability skills and utilise your knowledge of language and business culture
