In today’s dynamic threat environment, Northrop Grumman's secure processing capabilities are keeping the United States and allies safe.

As member of Northrop Grumman's secure processing team, Mary is Defining Possible every day with technology no larger than a fingerprint.

"Our threat space is changing daily. There are adversaries that would love to use our hardware, that would love to put malicious software into our systems. Secure processing is at the heart of preventing that," explains Mary, Section Manager of Digital Subsystems at Northrop Grumman.

Working for a leader in secure processing

Simply put, Mary's mission at Northrop Grumman is to keep the secret things in and keep malicious things out. She works with Application Specific Integrated Circuits or ASICs, non-standard integrated circuits that have been designed for a specific use or application.

And Northrop Grumman is the best place for Mary to work with this pioneering technology. Considered a trailblazer in application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC), Northrop Grumman is unique in its capabilities and has generations of success in this area.

"In our case we have generations of secure processors. They're large, digital, smart analog. They are embedded in a multi-chip module. We use RF integrated circuits as well and lots of other components in that module," says Mary.

Mary came to Northrop Grumman from the commercial area because the company is one of the few places still doing design all the way from front end to the back end in this area. Mary explains that Northrop Grumman is unique in that the company does its own physical design, and says that it's one of the few places on the East Coast of America where she can still do this type of work.

"Northrop Grumman has established itself as a leader in secure processing and we continue to push the boundaries of what secure processing means for the future," adds Mary.
