Bazaarvoice CEO: Employee-led approach to workplace diversity

Bazaarvoice CEO: Employee-led approach to workplace diversity

 December 07, 2021

With the need for diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) growing stringer than ever, Bazaarvoice CEO Keith Nealon has penned an article for Forbes magazine highlighting how the company takes an employee-led approach to DE&I.

"In my company, we believe DE&I has to be an employee-led, bottom-up effort, and not something that is imposed from the top down, and this is how we are doing it. That doesn’t mean the executive team doesn't need to be involved, though. Quite the opposite — the executive team needs to work just as hard, if not harder, to help drive change." explains the CEO.

The CEO cites that his passion is in building winning teams filled with passionate, motivated, curious, ambitious, driven, generous, compassionate and fun-loving people.

Creating an inclusive workplace culture

According to the Bazaarvoice CEO, there are key elements underpinning Bazaarvoice's approach to DE&I:

  • encouraging employees to play an active role
  • communicating the 'hows' and the 'whys'
  • making everyone more DE&I aware
  • understanding DE&I is a marathon not a sprint

Enacting social justice

"Diversity and inclusion are crucial business performance issues, and unless they are embedded in business culture and processes, organizations will likely find it harder to attract top talent, expand into new markets and build a strong reputation among customers, suppliers and employees," writes Keith.

"Increasingly, I've found, it is about enacting social justice. Many of the issues around social injustice have been centuries in the making and won’t be resolved overnight. In the past, it was often entrusted to the market and the government to bring about the change that was required, but it's clear to me and many others, that's not working. Business leaders who take an employee-led approach to creating a truly diverse workplace are also helping to create a more inclusive and equitable society."
