QBE recognised for its inclusive workplace commitments

 March 01, 2022

QBE European Operations seeks out people with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds, experience, perspectives and ambition, and has now achieved a silver award in Stonewall's 2022 Workplace Equality Index.

"At QBE, we're committed to championing and advancing inclusivity and equality, and we're incredibly proud to have achieved a silver award in Stonewall's 2022 Workplace Equality Index," comments QBE.

Dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusion

Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers is the definitive list of workplaces that have dedicated themselves to supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion inside and outside the organisation itself.

Workplace Equality Index (WEI) is marked by experts in the field of LGBTQ+ workplace equality. The Gold, Silver and Bronze awards mean that all entrants have a clear and fixed path of progress and that organisations are free to focus on the areas that matter most to them.

The Index is designed as a developmental framework, meaning respondents are supported with in-depth feedback to build a robust, tailored action plan to improve their inclusion year by year.

In order to become a Top Employer, organisations need to submit to the Workplace Equality Index (WEI). This is a wide-ranging and intensive LGBTQ+ inclusion benchmarking tool. The WEI is designed to acknowledge and evaluate employers’ inclusion work, as well as allowing them to measure their progress over time.

Stonewall has placed more focus on non-binary and bi inclusion, and work that supports people with a range of identities, such as disabled LGBTQ+ people, or LGBTQ+ people of colour. It has includes criteria around maintaining a focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion in dispersed workplaces, since working from home has become normalised for many.

Diversity is essential for success

QBE Europe's Inclusion of Diversity Strategy aims to create a more diverse workforce, inclusive workplace and connected marketplace by 2023. QBE knows that diversity of thought, background and experience is essential for success.

The company's JustBe@QBE campaign is one of the ways it is bringing its strategy to life by inviting everyone to just be. QBE intentionally evolves its language to Inclusion of Diversity as it wants to create a workplace culture where all the company's people, in all the ways they are different, feel included. QBE know that this will in turn spark creativity, drive innovation, help attract and hold onto talented people and deliver the best outcomes for its customers.

Attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent

Over the next three years, QBE will maximize opportunities to attract, develop and retain diverse talent. Women currently make up 31.7 per cent of the leadership roles with QBE, and ethnic minorities make up 10.6 per cent. By the end of 2025, QBE aims to have women make up 40 per cent of its leadership roles as well as increase the ethnic diversity of the leadership.

QBE believes that everyone should feel included at work; therefore, it will build inclusive capabilities, listen to its people, and support flexibility and wellbeing. With COVID-19 changing the way people work forever, QBE want to empower all employees to prioritise their wellbeing and what matters to them.
