John Deere employee, Lynn Huston, created a series of videos recognizing women in agriculture - such as Janell Aust of Aust Farms in eastern Kansas, USA - which highlight the many exciting career opportunities possible within the industry.
Discovering opportunities in agriculture
Janell's mom was always there for her growing up, so she wants to be there for her kids too and encourage their passion for agriculture.
Janell's young daughters are involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA), as she was when she was younger. Their involvement is helping them to see the many opportunities in agriculture. "I think it's really helping her to see the opportunities in agriculture, knowing that you don't just have to be in production agriculture like we are, but you could be in research, food science, marketing...all these different things," says Janell.
Continuing the family legacy
Like generations before them, Janell hopes her daughters will choose a career in agriculture, too - a legacy from both sides of their family.
"They see the hard work and the time commitment. Life might be easier doing something else but they both know there is an opportunity for them to come back," explains Janell.
"I truly think that there are a few career paths that will always be a need for and agriculture is certainly one of those."
No limits to women in the industry
Janell is also seeing more and more women in management positions in agriculture. "There's no limit," she adds, a quality she has taken from her own mother, who stepped up and supported herself in her career.
The future is bright for Janell's daughters in agriculture, and she knows that it is going to be "really exciting to see what path they choose."
