The role of women around the world is central in helping society adapt to the impacts of climate change, says WSP.
To mark Gender Day at COP27, WSP asked some of its people how they are doing this in their day-to-day roles. Here's what they had to say.
WSP's Head of Environment, Afshan Rasheed
"Working together with clients to explore how we can protect and often improve our environment is a key part of my role. Ensuring we are focused on a sustainable future and the needs of the next generation is hugely important to me personally. I consider everyday activities and how I can reduce mine and my family's impact on climate change, such as walking or cycling instead of using the car."
WSP Director - Energy, Nicola Riley
"Through our work in offshore wind, we are supporting clients to deliver sustainable projects that are due to play a core role in the future decarboniation of our energy supply. I feel motivated and proud every day to be involved in a sector at the forefront of addressing this climate change crisis."
WSP Technical Director, Kate Dougherty
"Decarbonisation of the built environment has a huge part to play in our race to a net-zero future. Every day we are rethinking the way that we design and construct buildings to rise to this challenge."
WSP Senior Consultant, Dr Ashira Perera
"As an Economist, I am motivated to use quantitive and qualitative data and insights to help our clients embed climate change considerations within their strategies and implementation. Our team's work is wide-ranging and can typically include analysing public sector approaches to decarbonisation as well as assessing the economic benefits of investing in natural capital. Prioritising projects related to clean growth and biodiversity - both in the UK and internationally - enables me to make a valuable contribution towards addressing climate change concerns."
