AECOM's Alexis Plair is helping build equitable communities

AECOM's Business Transformation Manager, Alexis Plair, has recently joined AECOM Transport based in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Alexis is a Strategic Leader for just and sustainable communities, She is committed to help create a world that is as just as it is sustainable. With expertise in product and strategy, she aims to help empower communities with the resources, experiences, spaces, and places they need to thrive.

Working to help create just, sustainable communities

Alexis enjoys to talk about urban and experience design, placemaking, community and economic development, climate, and justice. Her role with AECOM as Business Transformation Manager means she is a Manager, Strategy+ Consulting, within the Design Consulting arm of the company.

"My mission is to help make communities as just and equitable as they are sustainable,” says Alexis.

Alexis works with clients on design challenges related to infrastructure, cities, places, and digital transformation, with a focus on the intersection of social and climate impact.

"In this career step I'm excited to partner with clients to design infrastructure, cities, places and programs that enable a just and sustainable world," comments Alexis.

Partnering with mission-driven organizations

Alexis also works as a self-employed Strategy Consultant with AP Impact Consulting, based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. She partnered with mission-driven organizations focused on social impact, to build just, sustainable communities for all people to thrive in. Her services included product strategy, business strategy and user research.

She has worked as a Research Fellow for the Sanctuary for Sustainable Artistry (SFSA), with a focus on Economic Empowerment. As a Research Fellow, she led projects to distil insights from urban property owners and tenants and use those insights to optimize SFSA's offering.

An extensive career in justice and equity

Alexis previously worked as a Principal Product Strategist with Via for eight months in Oakland, California, U.S. As a Product Principal at Via, she developed a product vision and strategy for the Microtransit product line. She also worked for two years as a Senior Product Manager on the Digtal team in the Energy Group with Tesla. Here she owned the customer fulfilment web experience (Tesla Account) for Solar Roof plus a suite of internal energy scheduling tools including a web tool, scheduling automation, and a mobile app experience.

She has held the position as National Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (Volunteer) with Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI). As CELI's Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Alexis worked to ensure that CELI is a diverse and inclusive community whose procedures, processes and distribution of resources are rooted in justice and equity. She has worked as Product Manager with Sunrun, managing the customer experience for the loan and purchase product offerings, in addition to special projects related to customer experience across products, and Senior Associate Product Manager with IBM.

Alexis graduated in 2014 with a BSc in Communications from the University of Miami, U.S. She studied at Tulane University, New Orleans, US, in 2014, seeing her undertake the Social Justice, Environment and Language Summer program in Costa Rica.
