Meet personal assistant to Diageo's Supply Chain Director for Tequila, Guadalupe Lozano, who operates out of Mexico.
Guadalupe discusses how she has helped bring equality to the workplace and culture of Tequila production in Mexico.
From a larger female operations crew to better facilities for women, Guadalupe discusses how equity has permeated through Diageo into the distillery at La Primavera, Mexico, and is helping women break biases across the tequila industry.
Equity has been permeating
"I am the mother of a 21-year-old girl. She's benefited from all the growth I've had throughout this time. I can even promise you that she knows more about Diageo, its policies, its environment and more than I do. Seriously!" shares Guadalupe.
"Being a single Mom, I always felt very much embraced with my needs. The eyes of the tequila industry are upon us because at Diageo, we are spearheading its growth. Historically, the tequila industry has been a purely male dominated one. However, I witnessed and continue to witness the first female operations crew in the factory, in the distillery and the cultural shock experienced by the men who had to teach them was significant.
"In the operations area there were only restrooms for men, but when we had more women in the operations area, we created showers, dressing rooms, bathrooms, and even a lactation room! Equity has been permeating, and finally reaching us, providing all this information and breaking our biases - these unconscious biases we were labeled with since childhood," she concludes.
