Congratulations to John Deere for its recognition as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies. This prestigious list highlights impressive businesses and leaders shaping the future.
John Deere was listed in the Titans category among further globally influential companies such as Disney, TikTok, Mattel, Apple, and Microsoft.
"While this recognition is a huge tip-of-the-hat to the Deere team, the credit belongs with our customers. They continually inspire us to push the boundaries of what is possible and innovate to make a real impact in the world. And as John C. May says 'We are just getting started!' " commented John Deere Chief Technology Officer, Jahmy Hindman.
Using digital technology to bolster productivity
Explaining why John Deere earned this listing, TIME explained: "The iconic 186-year-old manufacturer still makes green tractors, but now loaded with digital tech that aims to bolster farmer productivity."
A truly fascinating place to work, in 2022 John Deere debuted See & Spray Ultimate which uses computer vision and machine learning to detect and spray only weeds (not crops) and its first fully autonomous tractor, which can be remotely managed via an app. Half a million machines worldwide are now connected; John Deere aims for 1.5 million by 2026, with a bespoke satellite service on the horizon. “We’re looking to move the farmer away from broad decisions for an entire field to plant-level management- opening up a new level of visibility and precision on the farm,” explained Jahmy Hindman.
Charting an essential path forward
To create the list, TIME editors sought out nominations from across sectors, and polled its global network of contributors and correspondents, as well as outside experts. TIME editors then evaluated each on key factors including impact, innovation, ambition, and success.
This resulted in a diverse group of businesses, like John Deere, who are helping to chart what TIME describes as an "essential path forward".
