With over 200 brands sold in more than 180 countries, Diageo's portfolio offers something for every taste and celebration. The company is a global leader in beverage alcohol with an outstanding collection of brands across spirits and beer, including Guinness, Johnnie Walker and Baileys.

In what the United Nations describes as the Decade of Action, Diageo announced its Society 2030: Sprit of Progress plan, designed to make a more inclusive and sustainable world by 2030.

Meaningful action on a global scale

Diageo is passionate about the role that its brands play in celebrating life the world over. Diageo has a responsibility to grow its business in the right way, from grain to glass, and a responsibility to ensure its people, partners and communities can thrive.

Diageo's plan builds on its 2015-2020 Sustainability and Responsibility Goals and delivers meaningful action on a global scale over the next ten years. Carefully selected to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Diageo focuses on three core areas:

  • Promoting positive drinking
  • Championing inclusion and diversity and pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability through preserving water
  • Accelerating to a low-carbon future and becoming sustainable by design

Helping create a more inclusive and sustainable world

Diageo is a company built by entrepreneurs and people of extraordinary character. Since Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease, and John Walker and Son sent the finest Whisky from Scotland to the world, Diageo has had ambition.

Commitment to promoting positive drinking

Diageo wants to change the way the world drinks for the better, by celebrating moderation and continuing to address alcohol related harm. In the next decade, Diageo will reach one billion people with messages of moderation from its brands, and educate people on alcohol related harm through its global drink IQ platform.

Diageo's alcohol education program, Smashed, will educate over 10 million people on the dangers of underage drinking, and the company is committed to changing the attitudes towards drink-driving of five million people.

Increasing representation of employees in leadership roles

Championing inclusion and diversity is core to Diageo's purpose, and the company wants the diversity of its customers and consumers to be reflected in the people who shape its business.

Diageo's ambition is to achieve 50 per cent representation of women in leadership roles with 45 per cent of its leaders from ethnically diverse backgrounds. It will also help support a thriving and inclusive hospitality sector, providing skills and training to 1.7 million people through Diageo Bar Academy and Learning for Life.

Preserving natural resources across the globe

Diageo is also going further to preserve the natural resources on which every one depends on. The company will reach Net Zero carbon across its operations. It is committed to switching its sources of direct energy to be 100 per cent renewable and will reduce the carbon in its supply chain by 50 per cent.

Water is critical to life and Diageo's business, and the company will lead collective action to preserve the world's water. Every drink Diageo makes will use 30 per cent less water than it does today, and by 2026 Diageo will replenish more water than it uses in water stressed areas, delivering over 150 community water projects around the world.

Diageo will also make sure that 60 per cent of its packaging will be made from recycled material and 100 per cent of its packaging will be widely recyclable.

Diageo will also develop innovative partnerships to help create a more circular economy, will help to regenerate and restore the landscapes and resources it relies on, as well as supporting smallholder farmers with agricultural skills.
