Reinforcing its strong commitment to women's advancement, Nottingham Trent University welcomed the return of This Girl Can Week.

The week provided an opportunity for getting girls more involved with sport and celebrate the University's female students by recognising their achievements and encouraging them to get active and try new sports and activities.

A nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving

Launched in 2015, This Girl Can is Sport England's nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability. To date, the campaign has successfully persuaded nearly three million women to get more active.

The This Girl Can campaign aims to help women overcome barriers to exercise - whether fear of judgement, worries about their abilities, or busy schedules -  by telling the real stories of women who get active or play sport in the way that’s right for them.

A wide range of activity encouraged girls' participation in sport

The University hosted a wide range of activities aimed at inspiring women and girls to participate in sport, including:

  • spin classes
  • basketball
  • netball
  • female-only self-defence
  • hockey
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
  • cricket
  • climbing
  • touch rugby
