Ensuring better outcomes for underrepresented communities
"My appointment to the Minnesota Health Equity Leadership Council afford me the opportunity to work across the state to ensure better outcomes for underrepresented communities as it relates to health," explains Michaela.
"I work in the Global Inclusion organization at Medtronic, where I have an active role in creating an inclusive environment for all to thrive and breaking down barriers to equity for our people, our industry, and the communities around the world. I see Health Equity efforts as a dimension of that."
Achieving full health potential
Health equity is defined as the state in which every person can achieve their full health potential. But inequity persists and disproportionately affects already underserved and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities. And among those populations diseases like diabetes and hypertension have long-term, potentially catastrophic health and financial impacts.
