When it comes to choosing where to work, take a good look at the organization's tech infrastructure. If it's outdated and antiquated, then it might just tell you something about the work culture. But if it's modern, transformed and progressive, then it can help shed some light on the company's tone and their fresh and agile approach.

When interviewing with a prospective employer, it's important to learn as much as possible about the organization's views and capability for hybrid and flexible working.

It's time to "reinvent the workplace and put the employee experience first to achieve new levels of productivity, engagement and collaboration, and help win the war for talent," attests IT services company DXC Technology that helps build better futures for customers, colleagues, environment and communities.

DXC Technology knows employees like to connect, collaborate and work seamlessly and securely on any device, anywhere. As such, the company helps further employers across industry to create empowering work cultures that accommodate today's hybrid work environments.

Supportive and flexible workplaces are key

The way employees think about their workplace has changed.

Today’s workers expect employers to be responsive to their needs about how they want to work and where, and promote greater flexibility, trust, listening and purpose. But sadly, many companies remain locked in the past and their leaders are often unsure about how best to supporting a more employee-focused culture of work.

Progressive workplaces support their employees to access the services they need, when they need them, allowing them to stay focused on their work. And for women employees, especially those with family or caring responsibilities, working for an employer that provides support and flexibility in different ways of working, is absolutely key.

An inclusive work environment

DXC Technology President of Modern Workplace, Mike McDaniel, says: "Employees’ expectations for their work experiences have changed dramatically in the last couple of years. Many employees are now vested in the model of the hybrid workplace and in working for a business that promotes an employee-centric culture. Companies have to start looking through their staff’s eyes to create the solutions, processes and policies that will drive the collaborative equity that’s so critical to fulfilling new expectations—and to propelling business success."

Furthermore, employees want to know their voices are being heard and that they have the right tools to effectively interact with their colleagues, even if they’re not all together in the office. And, remote workers don’t want to feel that their influence on business planning, projects and innovations is diminished because they’re not physically present.

Progressive organizations understand, value and address these issues.

"Now that a hybrid work environment is becoming the norm, businesses need to make sure remote workers feel they have an equal voice with their colleagues in the conference room and an equal opportunity to collaborate with them. The communications practices that defined the traditional workplace won’t work anymore," explains Mike.

Organizations must ensure that all employees can effectively interact with each other to enable a flexible work environment. "Flexibility is critical to an employee-centric culture, particularly as it relates to remote work. In fact, over one-third of employees say they’re more likely to look for a new job if they’re forced to work in an office full-time, according to the 2022 Employee Experience Trends report from Qualtrics," reports Mike.
