Diageo earns recognition as an adoption-friendly workplace

 October 07, 2022

Diageo North America is named Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA), a nonprofit public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care.

Diageo ranks number one in its industry, and number 11 overall for the company's parental leave program that is both available to all new parents, and inclusive of adoption and foster care.

DTFA partnered with RTI International, an independent, nonprofit research institute, to survey employers across the United States to conduct the Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace survey.

The 16th annual 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list includes a diverse group of organizations, representing 22 industries.

Participants were scored based on three criteria: financial reimbursement (45%), paid leave (45%) and the percentage of employees eligible for those benefits (10%).

A commitment to family-friendly benefits

DTFA also ranks employers by size, industry, paid leave, foster care benefits and impact. The impact list recognizes organizations who employ more than 1,000 people and that provide the largest overall financial benefits for adoption to the largest number of employees.

“A commitment to providing competitive, flexible and robust family-friendly benefits is a meaningful way to both attract and retain excellence in the workplace,” said DTFA President & CEO, Rita Soronen. “A family created through adoption has the same familial needs - time for bonding, new financial considerations and a frequent change in routine to provide a loving, safe and nurturing environment in which that child can grow and thrive to their full potential."

An ambitious parental leave policy

Diageo's ambitious maternity and paternity leave policy forms part of the company's work to create a fully inclusive and diverse workforce. Diageo offers a global minimum of 26 weeks fully paid maternity leave and sets global minimum standard for fully paid paternity leave.

The policy helps employees to focus on the joy of raising a young family, while continuing to thrive at work, while ensuring that women and men are supported to have time with their new baby regardless of where they live and work.
