Diageo has been named amongst the top 25 most diverse and inclusive companies for a third consecutive year in the 2018 Thomson Reuters Diversity & Inclusion Index – ranking 4th out of the top 100 publicly traded companies in this globally recognised list.

“I am very proud that Diageo is one of the most diverse and inclusive workplaces globally. Embracing diversity including gender, sexuality, ethnicity, experience, thinking styles and more has been proven time and time again to benefit commercial performance," commented Mairead Nayager, Diageo's Chief Human Resources Officer.

Climbing the ranks

Launching in 2016, the Thomson Reuters Diversity & Inclusion Index ranks the top 100 publicly traded companies globally with the most diverse and inclusive workplaces. Having ranked 11th in the 2016 inaugural list, Diageo successfully climbed to 5th position in 2017 and has now ranked 4th in this year’s list.

“Our Index, now in its third year, highlights the companies leading the way in embedding diversity and inclusion into their company strategies. The industry is beginning to recognize the societal and business benefits of investing in diverse and inclusive initiatives, and we congratulate those companies that have made it into the Index this year," said Elena Philipova, Global Head of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) at Thomson Reuters, Financial & Risk.

Fighting for a diverse workplace

This is not the first time Diageo has ranked highly for its promotion of gender diversity in the workplace.

Diageo has also been recognised for leading the FTSE 100 for the representation of women on boards in the Cranfield School of Management Female FTSE Board Report. Diageo has also been included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index which highlights the steps Diageo has taken and the progress it has made in forging gender equality within its business, as well as in the communities in which it operates. Diageo has also pledged to support the 'Free the Bid' campaign that promotes equal opportunities for women working in the advertising industry.

As a global business with over 200 brands in 180 countries it’s critically important that our employee base reflects the world around us and that we create a working culture where everyone can thrive. We are proud of our achievements to date, and have stretching targets and ambitions to do more," said Mairead.
