African Development Bank's Internship Program

The main objectives of the Internship Program are to provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank - to provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes. (However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with AfDB.)

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- applicants must be students, aged at least eighteen (18) years, and currently enrolled in an educational institution of higher learning
- applicants must be citizens of one of the Bank’s member countries
- applicants must be fluent in at least one of the working languages of the Bank (English or French).

Application Procedures
Read about African Development Bank's Application process. Documents are to be submitted by the Applicants:
- duly completed AfDB internship application form, counter-signed by the applicant's educational institution or sponsoring agency
- current CV and cover letter
- copies of the latest educational certificates and transcripts or equivalent institutional records
- a letter of recommendation from the academic institution he/she is currently attending
- a brief description of the program or the topic (thesis or dissertation) to be prepared during the internship (when applicable).

Internships are initially for a period of three months, renewable only once for an additional period of three months.

Financial and Administrative Arrangements
Interns are responsible for all expenses (travel, housing, transportation) related to the internship. Candidates are required to show proof of medical and accident insurance coverage prior to assuming duty as an intern. Candidates are also required to secure visas (when necessary) prior to their travel to the host country of the Bank headquarters.
