Prime employer, Diageo is a signatory of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

The Global Commitment includes more than 400 signatories, which are aligned on a path to build a new plastics economy. Business signatories, including companies representing 20 per cent of all plastic packaging produced globally, are working to eliminate the plastic that isn't needed, to innovate so that all plastic that is needed is 100 per cent reusable, recyclable, or compostable, and to circulate all plastic used.

Diageo tweeted: "Proud to support the Ellen MacArthur Foundation as a signatory to the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment."

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the UN Environment Programme published the first annual New Plastics Economy Global Commitment progress report at the Our Ocean Conference in Oslo. The report provides an unprecedented level of transparency on how almost 200 businesses and governments are reshaping the plastics system. On the road to an ambitious target

Diageo is well-known for its environmental efforts and goals, with the company also setting its own plastics targets. These include that 100 per cent of plastics used should be widely recyclable by 2025 and plastic bottles should be made of 100 per cent recycled content by 2030.

The plastics targets build on years of commitment to making Diageo's packaging more sustainable – principally through increasing recycled content, reducing packaging weight and increasing recyclability.
