Spirax-Sarco Engineerings Sarah Peers scoops WeQual Award

Spirax-Sarco Engineering's Sarah Peers scoops WeQual Award

 January 13, 2020

Sarah Peers, Head of Group Corporate Communications for Spirax-Sarco Engineering, is the winner of the WeQual Award for Corporate Communications.

WeQual's mission is to empower women in the corporate world to reach their full potential and navigate the ever changing landscape of senior management.

An impressive career history for Sarah

Sarah holds an MA (First Class Honours) from the University of St Andrews, a Doctorate from the University of Oxford and a PGCE from Durham University. After a period teaching Geography at the Cheltenham Ladies College, she made a career change and took on the challenge of heading the corporate communications function at Spirax-Sarco Engineering, as Group Corporate Communications Manager.

In the role of Head of Group Corporate Communications, Sarah oversees internal and external communications, with a primary focus on shareholder communications. She is also a passionate advocate of sustainability and oversees the Group’s Community Engagement programmes, within the Group Sustainability Strategy.

Overcoming belief barriers

“Success in business, as in any other field of endeavour, requires the overcoming of belief barriers. Women, in particular, have a tendency to self-limit and it requires courage to push past those self-imposed limitations, but doing so is essential for developing the resiliency and self-belief needed to achieve success. It is also important for women to have champions, who recognise their potential and help them to see it in themselves," said Sarah, following her award success.

"The WeQual Awards do just that; they are shining a light on women leaders, showcasing their achievements and potential and championing them to further success while, at the same time, providing role models to women who are just starting out in their careers. I am delighted to have been involved in the WeQual Awards this year; being shortlisted as a finalist came as a surprise, winning even more so, especially so given the high quality and calibre of my fellow communication professionals within the FTSE 350.

"I am fortunate to work for a fantastic company that has provided me with many opportunities for professional development and growth, in an industry (engineering) that has historically been male dominated. I hope that my WeQual win will demonstrate to other women that with hard work, determination and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone, success can be achieved in any industry.”
