Making a huge impact over the decades at Diageo

Syl first joined Diageo as GB Marketing Director, before moving into the CMO position.

Syl is well known for leading Diageo’s drive for progressive gender portrayal in advertising and has been instrumental in the company’s work to champion inclusion and diversity. She was a catalyst behind Diageo’s support of the Creative Equals Creative Comeback programme to support women returning to the creative industries following a career break.

Syl was awarded a CBE in The Queen’s 2020 Honours list for her services to business and equality in the workplace.

Syl is proud of what she is leaving behind

Syl will continue to serve as President of The Marketing Society and as an active board member and coach for the Marketing Academy.

“Deciding to leave and embark on the next stage of my career is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. Diageo is the most incredible company, with people who are talented, committed, and passionate. My goal is to go out into the world and develop more of those people," Syl comments.

“I am very proud of what I’m leaving behind – a strong function that is committed to getting better by learning and growing themselves.”

Diageo’s Chief Executive, Ivan Menezes, adds “Thanks to Syl, our pipeline of marketing talent has never been stronger, and I am delighted that Cristina will be our new CMO. Cristina has consistently shown herself to be a widely respected and resilient leader, able to build high performing teams across geographies and businesses and I look forward to continued brand growth under her leadership.”

Cristina Diezhandino, Diageo's Global Category Director for Scotch and Managing Director for Reserve, is set to take on the CMO role.
