GKN appreciates women have family and care responsibilities

 Read time

GKN understands that many employees have family and care responsibilities, and that there are many demands on their time. GKN supports its employees in many ways. Childcare vouchers are just one of the benefits that global engineering company GKN has introduced.

And GKN employees certainly value the support they access for childcare in their local communities. In fact, generous colleagues at GKN Land Systems Sohland used their overtime payments to help donate €10,000 to a local kindergarten that was hit by flooding one year.

The childcare centre “Elbkinderland” is named after the river Elbe, just a few metres away from where the centre is located in eastern Germany. Heavy rainfalls across Europe saw considerable flooding and unfortunately the childcare facilities outdoor play equipment and toys were all ruined.

When GKN Land Systems in Sohland heard about the incident, they immediately began to raise and donate funds for supporting the cause. They'd soon raised a grand total of €10,000 for the much greatly appreciative nursery. The money was used to fund a flood-resistant outdoor play area which was in the shape of an adventure ship and had swings, a slide and climbing frames. Once again the children were able to enjoy their important and exciting play outdoors thanks to GKN employees.

But this is not the only project GKN employees have assisted a childcare centre with. In their own free time and under their own costs, a number of GKN employees helped a local kindergarten by cleaning and repairing an outside social garden for the children, with some participants driving more than 7 hours return to be there.
