 January 18, 2022

Arcadis Assistant Engineer Amy Carter has been named as the winner of The British Dam (BDS) Young Persons Paper Competition, with Arcadis Engineer Emma Bullen having been shortlisted.

The two female thought leaders submitted a 2,500-word paper on a topic of dam engineering relating to their experience in reservoir research, design, construction, operation, maintenance, or supervision, with Amy's paper titled, Drivers for discontinuance: a multi-disciplinary approach to feasibility assessment.

Award-winning work experience

Participants had to demonstrate that they had undertaken a significant role, relative to their level of experience, in the project or topic.

Five finalists presented their papers during an online webinar, before taking questions from the audience. Judges marked their presentations, with the scores added to scores they received for their papers.

As the winner, Amy receives £500 prize money and also has her paper published in the BDS Journal Dams and Reservoirs.
