Malaya Castillo Zumel is a Transport Economist at the European Investment Bank (EIB). Here, she explains why she enjoys her work at the EIB.
Helping influence road safety policy
What Malaya loves most about her job is the fact that she sees her impact. "I work here as a sector economist and coordinator. The fact is that you get quite a lot of responsibility. One of the things I'm most proud of is our work on road safety, but I also get to help influence the road safety policy at Bank level, but also at EU level, international level," explains Malaya.
Reflecting on her hobbies, Malaya says, "I was looking at the list of hobbies I had, and they were all quite dangerous. I wanted something that was a bit more calming and I was very interested in the role of bees and just being here in the garden of the Bank and working with the bees."
Luxembourg is a city you want to stay in
Malaya enjoys working in Luxembourg. "My favourite part of Luxembourg is this little area called Grund. What I like about it is that it's just a five-minute walk from the bustling city, and I think that's very rare in a capital city nowadays. That also shapes and changes the city - Luxembourg is turning more and more into a city that you really want to stay in," she comments.
