The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group has shown its support for the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) by lighting up its 'Chair' monument outside its headquarters in rainbow colors.
"Today and everyday, we work towards building a #UnionForEquality. For IDAHOT 2022, the "Chair" outside our HQ is lit in rainbow colors to show our commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of LGBTIQ people worldwide," said the EIB Group.
An ongoing commitment
The EIB Group also published a pledge on LGBTIQ inclusion, with EIB President Werner Hoyer stating: "On the occasion of European Diversity Month and to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), the EIB Group, composed of the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund, is committed to stand up for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, intersexual or queer people (LGBTIQ) and promote the inclusion of LGBTIQ people in our societies."
He continued that the EIB Group commits to:
- Fostering the EIB Group’s role as an ambassador of LGBTIQ rights in its operations all around the world to ensure that LGBTIQ individuals can benefit equally from its projects.
- Advance the discussion around LGBTIQ inclusion in the workplace, by further developing an organisation in which everyone feels they belong and confident to be their authentic self.
- Promote a culture of allyship and support, to empower and actively engage everyone in creating greater equity and an environment in which people thrive.

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia commemorates the 1990 decision of the World Health Organization to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders, and aims to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex people, as well as other people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics.
