As part of its diversity and inclusion efforts, Diageo celebrates iconic women who are great role models both within and outside the beverage industry.
For International Women's Day (IWD), Diageo hosted rugby champion, Sene Naoupu, at the company's panel discussion and networking event centered around the IWD campaign theme #EmbraceEquity.
"Equity is key to nurture a truly inclusive culture where all our people can thrive," said Diageo.
A successful career in rugby
A Samoan New Zealander, Sene started playing sport from a very young age in her backyard with her brother and cousins. By the age of five or six, she was playing cricket, softball and touch rugby.
Now an Ireland women's rugby union international, Sene was a member of the Ireland team that won the 2015 Women's Six Nations Championship. Sene also represented Ireland at the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup.
In 2016, Sene was listed by The Irish Times as one of the thirty most influential women in Ireland, while in 2020, the Irish Examiner named her the 10th Most Influential Women in Irish Sport.
Supporting women in sport
Outside of her rugby career, Sene is also a lifestyle coach and fitness trainer. Sene's company, Senshaper, partners with national governing bodies to facilitate player pathways and is an outspoken supporter of girls and women in sport.
Sene is also board director for the national charity BodyWhys for those with eating disorders, something she suffered from herself in her 20s.
