John Deere is a great advocate for women in STEM.
The company was one of the challenge setters at HerHackathon, Germany’s biggest hackathon for women.
Organized by The Hackathon Company, the event aimed to include female perspectives in the development of solutions and products, to turn their ideas into reality and establish valuable connections in the industry.
Demonstrating technology skills through exciting challenges

HerHackathon provided a week-end full of fascinating topics, creativity, and groundbreaking innovation.
While providing the opportunity to demonstrate skills in exciting challenges, HerHackathon provided a chance for participants to learn from inspiring keynote speakers and experts, and to be part of a growing community of women emerging in the technology industry.
Setting an agriculture-related challenge

A practice-oriented event, HerHackathon saw partner companies like John Deere set various challenges, which the participants worked to complete within 48 hours.
John Deere's challenge was titled Crop Hero, where the winning team developed an app to help farmers make quick decisions about harvesting and field management while they work. The farmer can upload images of the field to the app and then receive recommendations on, for example, crop planning or the best time to harvest. Weather data, soil quality and market prices are taken into account in the analysis.
Impressed by the talent and innovative creation
John Deere Engineering Manager for Digital Applications and Architecture, Torsten Kreutzer, shared his experience regarding HerHackathon. “We made great connections with new, interesting people from different backgrounds, areas, and locations. Lot of creativity, brainstorming, cooperation. Our expectations were super high because it's not our first time. So, we knew what's possible and still we were blown away by the talents and what they created."
