Prime employer Amazon is creating one million jobs in India

 January 21, 2020

There are many exciting work opportunities available at prime employer for women, Amazon, in multiple locations and the company has now announced it's creating one million jobs in India by 2025.

Amazon has already created more than 700,000 jobs in India through its investments and the new jobs will be in areas including information technology, infrastructure, logistics and across its entire ecosystem.

Excited about what lies ahead

“We are investing to create a million new jobs here in India over the next five years,” says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. “We’ve seen huge contributions from our employees, extraordinary creativity from the small businesses we’ve partnered with, and great enthusiasm from the customers who shop with us—and we’re excited about what lies ahead.”

The new jobs include additions to Amazon's own employee count, while many will be indirect and part of Amazon expanding its operations. Amazon has so far committed $6.5 billion to the India market to continue making its mark on the e-commerce sector.

The Indian government has prioritised job creation and skilling initiatives — including the training of over 400 million people by 2022 — in rural and urban areas. Amazon's job creation commitment and investment in traders and MSMEs complements these efforts by creating more opportunities for people in India to find employment, build skills, and expand entrepreneurship opportunities.

In an effort to reduce carbon emissions, Amazon is also bringing 10,000 electric delivery rickshaws to India by 2025.
