WSP's Dr Nike Folayan MBE receives an honorary degree

WSP Technical Director Dr Nike Folayan MBE [pictured above left] is awarded an honorary degree from the University of Kent, while her colleague Rachel Skinner CBE [pictured above right] received an honorary doctorate from the University of Leeds.

Nike's honorary degree awarded was a Doctor of Science.

Innovative and results-oriented

Nike is responsible for technical strategic direction and technical growth of communications and control within WSP’s in UK and India.

She is an innovative and results-oriented chartered engineer and Fellow of the institution of Engineering and Technology. Nike has a PhD in Electronics Engineering with referenced international research publications and citations. An articulate communicator and influencer with good interpersonal skills, Nike is able to cultivate and maintain excellent working relationships with various stakeholders including company board members, government officials, strategic partners and staff. 

Nike is an advisory board member of various governmental and non-governmental organisations including the Royal Academy of Engineering, Transport for London, and University of Kent Industrial Panel. Amongst others, Nike has featured on the Top 100 most influential women in engineering Financial Times and inclusive boards list.

Translating objectives into actionable plans 

With strong organisational skills, Nike has the ability to translate objectives into actionable plans and is comfortable working in both the technical and commercial sides of the business.

Result driven, focused and enthusiastic, Nike is the Co-founder and Chairperson ofAssociation for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK), a UK-wide organisation that promotes higher achievement in engineering particularly for underrepresented groups in engineering.

To date AFBE-UK has actively supported over 20000 individuals seeking to work in engineering and engineering-related subjects.

Nike is a speaker and panelist on various seminars and conferences on antenna design, communications systems in transport and infrastructure, SMART Technology, diversity and inclusiveness. She is also the winner of the 2008 Precious Inspiring leader in the workplace award.
