Vodafone aims to be world's best employer for women

Vodafone is working to be a company whose workforce around the world mirrors the customers it serves and the communities within which it operates. That's why Vodafone has announced that by 2025 it aims to be the world’s best employer for women.

"We employ over 38,500 women directly and provide employment opportunities for hundreds of thousands more across our global supplier base," says Vodafone. "We believe that achieving greater gender parity will strengthen our company significantly through understanding the needs of the women, men, families and businesses who rely on our networks and services."

Recognising the need for gender equality in the workplace

Vodafone understands that gender inequality is a serious issue in the workplace, particularly when it comes to senior position, even though equal opportunity creates enduring social stability and economic prosperity. Vodafone believes that one problem is the lack of support given to working women starting families, which means these new mothers leave work and subsequently find it difficult to return after a long career break.

Committed to women's empowerment

In response to these issues, Vodafone wants to develop a strong track record for attracting, retaining and developing talented women and increase the proportion of women in leadership and management roles globally within the company. Vodafone is currently working towards this goal through many impressive programmes, initiatives and campaigns that support gender equality in the workplace.

Developing initiatives for talented women

Vodafone is also developing initiatives to address inequality issues in the workplace, such as its global maternity policy and its ReConnect programme. Both programmes help recruit, retain and develop female talent. Vodafone also reduced gender bias in its recruitment ads by adjusting the vocabulary with specialist technology. This saw an increase in the number of women Vodafone recruited into specific roles.

Celebrating International Women's Day

Vodafone is also raising the profile of female role models and celebrating women’s achievements through campaigns to coincide with International Women’s Day that engage employees through discussions, networking events, training and mentoring sessions.
