Women career returners keep on growing together with DHL

 Read time

DHL does more than deliver parcels, packages, and containers: delivers prosperity, transports health, empowers growth, and delivers joy. Every day Connecting People, Improving Lives.

With the principle of having equal opportunities for all individuals, DHL is improving the quality of life for its employees. The company supports you in expanding your knowledge and to personally grow, always keeping in mind that life outside the workplace is just as stimulating as work itself.

DHL knows you have gained even more experience in the past months, and this will contribute to the business's success. Though various countries have legislations that may differ, here are some overall implementation recommendations from DHL Global Forwarding, Freight that the various offices in different countries could follow if their local situation allows:

  • Paid maternity leave
The country's organization can implement 13 weeks’ paid maternity leave as a minimum. This can be split between the time before and after the birth of the child.

  • Keep-in-touch days
The country organization can arrange 1-2 keep-in-touch days with employees on maternity leave. These days should not be counted as part of maternity leave.

  • Paid paternity leave
The country organization can implement 5 days paid paternity leave as a minimum.

  • Unpaid leave
To give new parents further options to balance their work and family time, the country organization could also look into the option of unpaid leave for certain months post returning to work.

  • Flexible hours
Upon returning to work after maternity leave or an extended period of unpaid leave to take care of young children, employees should be entitled to flexible working hours to allow a progressive return.

DHL is THE logistics company & THE Freight Forwarder to join for women

Because you will have every chance to shine - As a woman returner, DHL wants to provide you with a safe and trusting environment to review your options and desire to return to your career full-time or to slowly transition back into the professional career world by securing a part-time role. The local teams and policies aim to focus on practices that support flexible, conducive work arrangements for women at the workplace. Whilst there is a focus on women at work, lots of policies element also support overall employees with children.

Because you will be respected and supported - DHL’s diversity policies and practices are designed to tackle gender stereotypes, encouraging, enabling, and empowering women to excel in roles once dominated by men. Today, more than one in five middle and upper management positions is held by a woman. And the number is growing all the time.

Across the group, there are numerous programs to support and inspire female employees, ranging from networking events, career programs to talent pools. Let’s not forget to mention the 'Women at DHL Global Forwarding, Freight' initiative, which won a gold award at the internationally renowned Stevie Awards for Women in Business for two consecutive years.
